Interact 2022
My name is Rifqah Price and I have been a member of the Interact Club since I was able to join in year 8, 2018 and I have loved being a part of it. I have been able to watch it grow in size over the years and observe as the club comes up with new ideas on how to better the community, ourselves and help those in need. I have recently been elected as the new 2022 president of the Interact club and I am so excited to be able to continue the work of the previous presidents in reaching out to the local community and helping out wherever we can.
Covid-19 has made social interaction with the community quite difficult, but that just leaves room for more creative ideas to surface. I hope that in the coming year, I alongside the rest of the board members, will be able to become an integral part of the community again, not only reaching out to the main charity organizations, but also the lesser known ones, who don’t have as many resources at their disposal. I plan to make the effort to inform the club and the school about exactly who we are helping, what they stand for and in doing so we not only help those less fortunate, but are also able to unify the club, put a face to a name and effort into a cause. I know that with the help of 2022’s board members, we can grow the interact club even more in size and in perspective.

Interact Club
It has been a busy year for the Interact club of Blouberg International School! We have not let Covid stop us from making a difference in the lives of as many people as possible!
However, we could not have been able to do so if it wasn’t for our incredible parents, learners and staff who have contributed so much to all of our drives, specifically our food drive and ongoing clothing drive for Peace Home which does so much to support our local community.
Other events that our Interact Club have been involved in include visiting Fallen Angels where learners were able to give some neglected dogs much deserved love and cuddles. We were also fortunate enough to be invited to attend a ‘Packing party” where our younger Interact members were given the opportunity to pack bags of food for those in need.
Overall, I am immensely proud of our school and our ability to come together to support those in need- it is truly what makes BIS a family.

Global Citizenship
The Year 6’s have been learning about what it means to be a global citizen. A global citizen is someone who takes an active role in their community and works to make the planet a better place. The students have gained a better understanding of the world and are learning to get more involved in local and global communities. They have learnt that they have the power to change the world around them and that they can be a positive influence for all of those they may meet. They have the power to create a more positive, fair, safe and secure world for everyone.
Here are a few definitions of a Global Citizen that the Year 6’s came up with:
“A global citizen is a person that helps out with society, takes care of the environment, recycles and treats people the way they want to be treated.” – Treasure Mpofu
“A person that helps the world and other people in tough situations.” – Teeyana Shaik Mahomed
“A person who is dedicated to helping the world and the environment.” – Saumya Maharaj
“A person that volunteers to help the community.” – Wonke Qokela
“A person who takes responsibility for the environment and takes care of others.” – Iviwe Matakata
“A global citizen is someone who plants trees and helps people in need.” – Morgan Glanville
“A global citizen is someone that takes responsibility for their country and environment.” – Joseph Banutelo
The Year 6 students investigated Global Warming and how they can reduce their carbon footprint. They learnt how to be responsible citizens and to help those in their community. The students designed slogans on how to make the environment a better place and are looking forward to discovering more about how to be a Global Citizen.
